
Culinary Industry: Rich with Opportunity
Job loss. Mounting debt. Housing economy bust. There’s no denying that the U.S. economy has taken a hit these past few years.
But all is not lost, especially when you look at specific industries like the restaurant and culinary industry. According to the National Restaurant Association, restaurants employ 12.8 million people, which make up 10% of the U.S. workforce. Even better, more jobs are being created. In 2011, the culinary industry added jobs at a rate of 2.4% compared to the 1.8% of the national economy.
Opportunities within the Restaurant Industry
Getting an education in the culinary arts will set you on the right track in preparing for a career in the culinary industry, but it will also put you in an excellent starting position for a number of other restaurant-related career opportunities. Note that many of the professions listed here may require training/schooling not provided in culinary school.
